Music: DJ DJ Shadow w/ Cut Chemist

The Bay's turntable baron and Quannum Projects founder DJ Shadow teams up with LA's Cut Chemist — fresh from his Juno cameo — to produce the slightly schizophrenic but super-fresh album, The Hard Sell. Tonight, DJ Shadow's mastery of samples, from soul to hyphy, and Cut Chemist's eclectic tastes (remember his mixes with Less than Jake, Shakira, and J5?) come together on 8 turntables, 4 mixers, and a smattering of amps, guitar pedals, and other circuitry. Holding notes on the vinyl so long that they become entirely different sounds, Montreal-based Kid Koala opens the show with a flurry of adept cross-fading and always amusing cuts from cartoons, Cantonese-speaking folk, and the like.
