Performing Arts: Opera LA Opera presents Giuseppe Verdi's Otello

Racism, jealousy, and betrayal form the backdrop of Shakespeare's penultimate tragedy, Othello. The stakes of the story are set even higher in this powerful staging of the Verdi opera based on the play. Throughout, the score communicates back-stabbing, revenge, and murder — each slowly building in the green-eyed Moor before he meets his demise. For the LA Opera, this run stands apart for two reasons: Otello was the company's first production, more than 20 years ago; and tonight marks the American debut of acclaimed British tenor Ian Storey in the title role.
