Film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

After Hollywood's recent horror-film diet of regurgitated conceits, half-baked remakes, and cookie-cutter copies, a screening of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is positively uplifting. Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein was the real-life inspiration for the slaughterhouse classic's chainsaw-carrying villain, Leatherface — the key member of a cannibal-hillbilly family that receives an unexpected treat in the form of a carefree group of youngsters. Needless to say, director Tobe Hooper gives plenty of screen time to his film's lovely ladies, and the whole gory mess culminates in an edge-of-your-seat showdown between Leatherface and a screaming heroine.
