Film Rebel Without a Cause (1955)

Rebel Without a Cause, director Nicholas Ray's hell-raising horse (James Dean) and carriage (alienated youth), is best summarized by Dean's immortal howl: "You're tearing me apart!" Ray's compassion for social outsiders and keen sense of the hip permeate this affecting, earth-to-parents tract. In it, Dean, in the full throes of adolescent angst and disgusted with it all, finds peace with fellow tormented spirits (Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo) until society spoils their paradise.
