Those who can't make it to Rio for Carnaval should consider a short schlep to another Mardi Gras mecca: Long Beach. The annual festival aboard the famous Queen Mary kicks off at 8pm, and promises a slew of Mardi Gras-themed events: late-night dancing to the tunes of Dandara & Gandaia band, Bahia-style sambas (as well as a school for beginners), MC Ayanna Bahiana, and a performance by Maisa, the evening's Salsa Queen. Carnaval-themed costumes are encouraged.
