Film Don Juan (1926)

Punctuated by the first synchronized musical score (a year before the first talkie, The Jazz Singer) and its sharp, hail-the-hero camerawork, Don Juan showcases legendary Lothario John Barrymore during his swashbuckling, lady-killing days. Mary Astor stars as the woman on the pedestal, who is married to the showdown scoundrel, Count Donati (played by deliciously named Montagu Love). Whether he's bestowing one of the film's 191 smooches or swinging his prop sword in acrobatically choreographed action, the Great Profile's swaggering, muscular presence makes for a mesmerizing performance.
