Art Sylvia Ji: Por Vida

San Francisco native Sylvia Ji's paintings simultaneously depict the drama of the Pre-Raphaelites, the romantic sensuality of Mucha, and the allure of a pin-up poster. Heavy on other allusions, as well, her works suggest whispers of Victorian illustration and a cross-section of Eastern and Western cultures. While many of the portraits are reflections of the twentysomething artist herself, others represent individuals she has met or is waiting to meet, frozen momentarily in the amber of her pictures' dark, rapturous beauty.
