Toby Ziegler's work is full of dichotomies. For his new collection of painting and sculpture in Patrick Painter's West Gallery, the British artist can't decide between historical and futuristic, philosophical and technological, hard and soft. The juxtapositions reveal themselves in landscapes that are equally geometric and painterly, and sculptures that simultaneously reference the classical past and abstract modernity. The collection's title, The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse, hints at Ziegler's central aesthetic juxtaposition — the very relevant issue of contrasting forces.
