Brooklyn power-glam group stellastarr* (lowercase and asterisk intentional) dazzle the left coast once again, offering an emotionally taut take on Anglophilic new wave. Like Echo & the Bunnymen covering the Cure, they combine sleek, modern riffs with an earnest, almost operatic urgency. Olivia Stone and the Brothers Eklund, collectively known as the Oohlas, open with saucy, simple pop — a tad too heavy to be called bubblegum, but just as sweet to chew.
