The first R-rated film to win Best Picture, this 1971 gem stars Gene Hackman as NYC detective Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle. With Roy Scheider as his partner, he tries to intercept a heroin shipment between Marseilles and New York. See Det. Doyle running around in a Santa Claus costume during a foot chase and later demanding to know if one suspect "picks his feet in Poughkeepsie"; but really watch for the greatest car-chase sequence in film history, involving a 1971 Pontiac LeMans.
