Vancouver-based rockers Black Mountain create a simulacrum of classic rock that worships the idea of 1970, yet can't help but live in 2008. Touring in support of sophomore album In the Future, the band plays songs that vacillate between tight, driving anthems and sprawling jam-out sessions laden with kick-drums and fuzzy guitars. Tonight at the Troubadour, they're joined by Oakland's similarly '70s-minded Howlin Rain.
