Skirball Cultural Center says…

This year's resurgent Dylanmania — from Todd Haynes' byzantine biopic, I'm Not There, to Murray Lerner's performance-driven documentary, The Other Side of the Mirror — continues with Bob Dylan's American Journey, 1956-1966, an exhaustive consideration of the multifaceted songman's early years. With its treasure trove of artifacts — including handwritten drafts, vintage recital bills, and an incredible recording of Dylan's first concert — it tracks the musician's ascension from Robert Zimmerman of Hibbing, Minnesota, to the rock 'n roll apotheosis of the '60s. Through the wonders of technology, a satellite exhibit offers a hands-on, multi-instrumental jam session with a simulated Dylan.
