Art: Architecture/Design The Austrian Winery Boom

After a 1985 wine scandal (winemakers were discovered to have added an antifreeze component to sweeten their vintages), a red-faced Austria moved toward redefinition. Like a Grüner Veltliner, this materialized through white magic: architectonic innovation traveled down the grapevine, resulting in inventive and sophisticated collaborations between Austria's architects and vintners. Now at the viticulture vanguard, the country's full-bodied wine is corked in smart, modern structures. This elegantly imagined exhibit examines Austria's cultural and economic transformation through 43 transitional winery projects, broken down into blueprints, photographs, models, and sketches. Whet your appetite at the opening-night tasting before peering deeper into the wine's multifaceted fruition.
