Film: Documentary Werner Herzog: Three Documentaries

Werner Herzog profiles society's oddballs in his documentaries, eschewing the usual fly-on-the-wall anonymity in favor of subtext and a clear directorial presence. If you witnessed the trials and tribulations of bear hunter Timothy Treadwill in the Herzog-directed Grizzly Man (2005), you have an idea of what you're in for tonight. The Goethe Institute pays tribute to the director with a screening of three of his most surreal selections: 1962's Herakles, a dissection of bodybuilding; 1980's Huie's Sermon, a 42-minute short that captured the entire length of the late Reverend Huie's bizarre final oration; and 1992's Lessons of Darkness, a sci-fi take on the oil fields of Kuwait.
