As Internet video, indie film, and broadcast TV continue merging in today's new-media world, the Very Short Movies Festival gets in on the action, embracing the online frenzy without sacrificing the bustling conviviality of physical theaters. This year's festival screens wide-ranging and boundary-blurring genres, styles, and subjects both online and live at Cinespace in Hollywood, where party-goers revisit last year's winners at a red-carpet opening gala on March 13. Meanwhile, in cyberspace, online voting for 2008's best and brightest continues for 30 days until the finalists are selected for their turn on the big screen at the awards party on April 12.
