Art Good Doll Bad Doll
-
- Elizabeth King, Still from Eidolon, Courtesy Armory Center for the Arts
ArtForum critic and independent curator Michael Duncan encourages childish behavior in Good Doll Bad Doll, an exhibition featuring modern and contemporary artists who use dolls as "mini me"-style stand-ins. Happy childhood memories aside, dolls as subject matter have the potential for a high creep-factor (Chucky, anyone?), a point that clearly did not escape Duncan. Included in the show are works by surrealist photographer Hans Bellmer and art provocateur E.V. Day — both artists use macabre images of dismembered mannequins and mummified Barbies to reveal their alter-egos' darker side.
Note: There is an opening reception on Sat Mar 15 (7-9pm).
