ArtForum critic and independent curator Michael Duncan encourages childish behavior in Good Doll Bad Doll, an exhibition featuring modern and contemporary artists who use dolls as "mini me"-style stand-ins. Happy childhood memories aside, dolls as subject matter have the potential for a high creep-factor (Chucky, anyone?), a point that clearly did not escape Duncan. Included in the show are works by surrealist photographer Hans Bellmer and art provocateur E.V. Day — both artists use macabre images of dismembered mannequins and mummified Barbies to reveal their alter-egos' darker side.
