That Sarajo Frieden's Los Angeles studio is at the nexus of Koreatown, Little Armenia, and Thai Town makes perfect sense after you see her mixed-media work; her vibrantly colored, charming pieces are as worldly as they are whimsical. Combining folk and outsider elements, Frieden's art offers playfully obsessive, intricate pattern and dreamy fairy-tale narrative that's both surreal and serene, depicting a world that defies the laws of physics to get at something more heartfelt and jovial. She shows her latest compositions, many of which were embellished by embroiderer Marci Boudreau, at Atwater's Little Bird Gallery.
