That Sarajo Frieden's Los Angeles studio is at the nexus of Koreatown, Little Armenia, and Thai Town makes perfect sense after you see her mixed-media work; her vibrantly colored, charming pieces are as worldly as they are whimsical. Combining folk and outsider elements, Frieden's art offers playfully obsessive, intricate pattern and dreamy fairy-tale narrative that's both surreal and serene, depicting a world that defies the laws of physics to get at something more heartfelt and jovial.
