Since 2003's outstanding single "Maple Leaves" found its way onto the Internet, Swedish crooner Jens Lekman has consistently charmed the indie-pop world with his clever wit and ear for catchy melodies. Night Falls Over Kortedala is the latest — and if one listens to the critics, the greatest — installment in Lekman's catalog of humorous anecdotes, melancholy ruminations, and tales of awkward encounters with girls. The baritone's deadpan sense of humor provides an unlikely complement to his sample-heavy pop compositions, which bring together horn blasts, string arrangements, and simple melodies in a successful merger of the histrionic and the intimate. Starting off the evening are Lekman's fellow Gothenburgers, the Honeydrips.
