Two-parts pop to one-part folk, Max Miceli's landscapes and portraits force viewers to examine the relationships between man and beast, industry and nature, and abstraction and realism. Miceli's graphic, stylized aesthetic had previously garnered him success as an illustrator and commercial designer at the New York Times and Disney, among others. His time with Walt & co. might explain the ironic tone and eerie humor that creeps into his subliminal narratives, as well as his use of cryptic text as a compositional element.
