Back in 2002, hip-hop photographer and music-video maestro B+ (aka Brian Cross) introduced LA's old-school session drummers to a bunch of crate-diving DJs in his film Keepintime. B+ now pairs drummers Paul Humphrey, James Gadson, and Derf Reklaw with DJs Cut Chemist, Babu, J-Rocc, and Madlib and ships them all overseas to the land of samba, where they meet legendary Brazilian musicians João "Comanche" Parahyba, Wilson Das Neves, and Ivan "Mamão" Conti. The resulting Brasilintime is both a fascinating film and a delicious soundtrack of tight drums, whistles, and J Dilla-style beats. A Q&A and live session by B+ and Eric Coleman follow the screening.
