Daniel Lanois is an innovative rock 'n roll producer and a gifted singer/songwriter in his own right — but tonight's screening is all about his eyes, not his ears. It's the LA premiere of Lanois' feature documentary Here Is What Is, which chronicles collaborations with U2, Brian Eno, and Brian Blade that took him to recording studios all over the world, from Morocco to Shreveport. Like a modern-day Magical Mystery Tour, the cinematic experiment mixes concert footage, interviews, and behind-the-scenes glimpses to capture a romantic visual interpretation of the musical spirit. A nice bonus: Blade performs live with Lanois after each screening.
