Music: Rock/Pop Red Sparowes w/ Russian Circles and Holloys

There's some musical overlap between Chicago three-piece Russian Circles and the massively popular Tool — both work with chugging metal influences offset by sprawling, gentler moods (and to be fair, Russian Circles did open for Tool on tour last year). But Russian Circles' sound diverges from the progressive-metal path in interesting ways: as an entirely instrumental outfit, they slowly ascend the peaks and weave through the valleys of their songs, trailing their meandering guitar and heavy bass lines into the sonic realm of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Mogwai. Their second full-length LP, Station, arrives in May; to celebrate, the trio swings through town following an appearance at SXSW. It plays tonight with local post-rockers Red Sparowes.
