More Flavor: Conference Defining Dylan: A Bob Dylan Symposium
-
- Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan is still alive, kicking, and churning out albums — but that doesn't mean his contribution to the American popular-music canon isn't already up for analysis. In conjunction with the Skirball's current exhibition, Bob Dylan's American Journey, 1956-1966 (featuring early song drafts and unreleased concert footage), the museum hosts a one-day symposium on the great Mr. Zimmerman. Panel discussions bring together scholars and Dylan obsessives to debate the icon's finer points, including his Minnesota roots, his effect on folk music, his connection to black female gospel singers, and even his Jewishness. Moderator Bob Santelli is the director of the Grammy Museum and the former artistic director at the Experience Music Project in Seattle.
