The Getty Center says…

The Los Angeles River feels eons away to those Angelinos not living on the East Side, but it's an integral, flowing part of the city's history. The Los Angeles Conservancy and Friends of the Los Angeles River cosponsor a panel of expert architects, engineers, and historians, who share the story of how the river's bridges were built during the early 20th century. These majestic structures floating over the river have earned cameos in movies like Terminator 2 and Transformers. Celebrate the fact that the LA City Council just approved several Los Angeles River bridges as Historic-Cultural Monuments (HCMs) by checking out the panel discussion. Then, a few days later, take the Bridge Mix tour to check out the structures in person.
