Israeli Women: A Portrait in Photographs looks at Israel's female citizenry as a reflection of the state's 60-year history of independence. Drawing on documentary and journalistic pieces from Skirball's own collection and prestigious sources including the Central Zionist Archive and the National Photo Collection, over 60 photographs depict women in roles ranging from gunslinging soldier to maternal caregiver. But whether embracing sexuality, flexing their muscles, or flaunting the latest trends, the ladies in these images aren't just examples of womanhood. Rather, the photos show how women in present-day Israel often act and dress in ways that blur the line between masculinity and femininity.
