Los Angeles-based painter and installation artist Heng Peng has always had a fascination with fabric — both its design and the industry surrounding its production. His most recent series of mixed-media works on paper, coupled with an ambitious site-specific sculptural installation, examines the sensual power of silk, featuring drawings made of metal leaf and silkworm eggs. In the artist's intimate portraits and provocative poses, skin is textured with rich, abstract patterns within broadly delineated shapes, highlighting the mysterious seductiveness of both skin and silk and encouraging meditation on the metaphoric implications of chasing one's desires.
