Krzysztof Kieslowski may have set the bar too high for Polish cinema with his mid-'90s Three Colors trilogy. In the years since, though, Polish filmmakers have continued to churn out original, award-winning films — including a certain Mr. Polanski's The Pianist. LA's ninth annual Polish Film Festival toasts the nation with an 11-day bevy of offerings, including features, shorts, and animations. Tomasz Konecki's comedy Lejdis, which tops the opening-night gala's bill, introduces us to four women in their thirties on New Year's Eve and the various trials and tribulations that they've experienced over the year. All films are shown with English subtitles.
