San Diego's the Black Heart Procession (with core duo Pall Jenkins and Tobias Nathaniel) broke through to the indie mainstream with their 2002 release Amore del Tropico, a moody indie-rock record full of reverberating guitars, ghostly synths, and plenty of drama from Nathaniel's piano. On their latest release, 2006's The Spell, the band enlisted three new members and put out another record of dark, brooding arrangements punctuated by catchy melodies and well-paced crescendos. They've promised to play a bit of new material tonight. Starting things off are SoCal bands Spirit Army and the Drowning Men.
