Art  Overflow: A Reinvention of Allan Kaprow's Fluids

Almost two years to the day that Allan Kaprow passed away, several major Los Angeles institutions unite to celebrate his life and art. The avant-garde painter and performance artist helped develop "happenings" in the 1950s and went on to foster the idea of "un-art," which he wrote about extensively as a professor. Overflow, a project shared by the Getty Center, MOCA, and Pasadena's Armory Center for the Arts, recreates Kaprow's 1967 happening Fluids, in which he assembled, dismantled, and repurposed a massive ice-block structure. This is only one of many Kaprow happenings to be recreated citywide.
