Music: Rock/Pop The Breeders

Despite being an aging "alternative nation" act, the Breeders continue to inspire legions of loyalists: Deerhunter singer Bradford Cox has recently been seen sporting a shirt emblazoned with their logo, and it's easy to hear Kim Deal's crunching choruses in his damaged dream-pop. Deal originally formed the Breeders with ex-Throwing Muse Tanya Donelly; just as Deal's other band, the Pixies, met their demise, the Breeders hit payload with Last Splash, their 1993 album that spawned one of the decade's best singles, "Cannonball." With Deal's twin sister Kelley back on board, this tour is more than a victory lap — the Breeders are playing songs from the Steve Albini-produced Mountain Battles, their first new record in six years.
