Performing Arts My Barbarian

LA-based performance group My Barbarian offer up a whole heck of a lot more than your average local band. Not only is their poppy, '70s-inspired, electro-hybrid music contagiously danceable, but they also put on art, video, and theatre shows. Their cabaret-style act combines elements of musical theatre with elaborate choreography, kaleidoscopic costumes, and a lot of brazen over-the-topness. Tonight, they trek up the coast to the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum, a good fit considering that the group regularly puts together installations and performances across the globe at gallery spaces, including LACMA and the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena. Don't expect to merely sip a beer and passively take in My Barbarian, though, as their shows often have audiences cheering, laughing, and wholly absorbing the experience.
