Blek le Rat is known as the Parisian forefather of stencil and graffiti art. Nearly three decades ago, he plastered the City of Lights' meticulously manicured streets with his trademark image of the jumping black rat, and paved the way for artists like Banksy in the UK and Shepard Fairey stateside. In recent years, he's been in high demand as a gallery artist, and his much buzzed-about first solo show in the US, Art Is Not Peace But War, opens tonight at Subliminal Projects in Echo Park — one of the havens for street art in LA.
