Film Naked Lunch (1991)

Naked Lunch kicks off the last four weeks of the Steve Allen Theater's David Cronenberg retrospective in strange, fascinating style. The 1991 film is based on the William S. Burroughs novel of the same name, a quasi-autobiographical account of the legendary Beat author's life that addresses his addiction and increasing paranoia. The protagonist, Bill Lee (Peter Weller), is an exterminator whose wife is stealing his insecticide for recreational use; it only gets weirder from there — as you'd expect from a meeting-of-minds between the likes of Cronenberg and Burroughs.
