Music: Rock/Pop Northern State w/ the Dollyrots, Killola, and the Trucks

NYC's Northern State have drawn comparison to the Beastie Boys (and their more obscure female alter egos, Luscious Jackson), by spitting rough, politically charged rhymes against bare-bones beats. Over the years, the trio has smoothed out its flow and kicked in a few guitar riffs and melodic elements (check last year's release, Can I Keep This Pen?, to track the progression). Openers the Trucks, on the other hand, embrace the finest elements of Olympia's riot-grrrl movement, blending crystal-clear vocals with punky, simple melodies and the occasional electro-dance synth beat.
