According to the Directors Guild, women and minorities helmed only 17% of the top 40 prime-time TV shows of all time. This is exactly why AFI's Directing Workshop for Women (DWW) is so special. Since 1974, it has provided a tuition-free forum for women to create original films and allowed them to be screened in Hollywood's most esteemed venues. With an alumni list that includes Maya Angelou and directors from shows like Grey's Anatomy, Sex and the City, and The L Word, the annual showcase spotlights the next wave of women working behind the lens. Tonight, the current participants screen their future classics.
