Misato Suzuki is acutely aware of nature's palette and geometry. With soothing shades of yellow, orange, brown, and blue, she paints amorphous forms that are simultaneously strange and familiar. Colorful spheres, indistinguishable from afar, resemble eggs, pebbles, or teardrops upon closer inspection. Each is nestled among intricately rendered charcoal lines, with thousands of delicate strands wrapping around the shapes and floating across the canvas. These complex threads alternately remind one of spider webs, DNA helices, tree branches, and gnarled roots, while the careful attention that Suzuki pays to organic elements is expressed most clearly in the earthy brown tones of varied hues achieved with coffee. – Sascha Feldman
