Charles Phoenix is LA's cultural ambassador to its own gloriously kitschy past. His wildly popular slide shows and bus tours showcase (and lovingly mock) the beehives, finned sedans, bologna towers, and costume parades of LA's bygone days. This weekend, Phoenix trains his wide grin on the storied pastime of roller skating, invading Glendale's Moonlight Rollerway with a celebration of four-wheeled awesomeness featuring free snack-bar treats, live organ music, and a slide show on the history of rink culture. An afterparty caps it all off with free skate rentals and a spin around the polished floor.
