Music: Rock/Pop First Fridays feat. the Dodos
-
- The Dodos, Photo: Jeremy Harris
The Dodos' acoustic guitar-and-drums setup might seem the epitome of folky politeness, but their album Visiter boasts some of the year's most visceral indie rock. Drummer Logan Kroeber lays down polyrhythms while keeping true to his inner John Bonham, and Meric Long rivals Six Organs of Admittance's Ben Chasny for sheer acoustic-guitar skill. The comparisons to Animal Collective make sense — especially on the tribal coo-and-yelp of "Fools" — but traces of Meat Puppets II, Xiu Xiu percussion, and even some of Paul McCartney's classic ballads get swept up in the Dodos' whirlwind. They play tonight at the NHM's reliable First Fridays party, followed by DJ sets from Carlos Niño and Morpho in the African Mammal Hall.
