Music: Rock/Pop Peter Morén

Whereas Peter, Bjorn & John create tunes that seem made for car and credit-card commercials, Peter Morén on his own sacrifices some of that catchiness in favor of a little more sincerity. With just his voice and a guitar, he sounds like a sort of Gallagher-brothers amalgam — without the sibling-rivalry, of course — affecting a near-perfect British lilt. On his solo release, The Last Tycoon, Morén proves he's hardly the bellwether for Swedish music, but he does manage to transcend the ego of, say, the Sounds — if not the endearing and quirky candor of countrymen like Jenny Wilson and Jens Lekman.
