Back in the late 1970s, Steve Olson became a celebrity in the world of professional skateboarding for his vertical-shredding ability. He's since made his name as an established visual artist, making pieces reminiscent of the English punk scene that coincided with his ascendant skateboarding career. Olson layers materials (vinyl, staples, tape, even fishnet stockings) on top of one another to create explosive, multi-textured pop art. Some pieces use the traditional punk/pirate skull and crossbones or the Union Jack flag — but with leopard-print vinyl replacing the familiar red and blue.
