- Ming-Yuen S. Ma, Still from Myth(s) of Creation
Los Angeles-based media artist Ming-Yuen S. Ma takes the notion of a traveling art show quite literally with the Xin Lu project. Presented as part of the 24th annual Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, Xin Lu explores nomadism as a metaphor for family history through two site-specific bus tours of the city. For two days, the 50-seat buses feature experimental videos related to the locations they visit. In this way, the artist shows how family history and geographic uprooting are intertwined — his own family having branched out of the onetime British colony of Hong Kong. Meanwhile, lectures, "food fusions," discussions, and even guerrilla hijackings keep visitors on their toes.
Note: The tour departs from the Directors Guild Theatre, please meet outside.
