Film Mania Akbari: 10 + 4

As part of the Jack H. Skirball Screening Series, REDCAT presents the West Coast premiere of Iranian painter/video artist Mania Akbari's quasi-documentary account of her battle with cancer. 10 + 4 was created as a sequel to Abbas Kiarostami's Ten (2002), which starred Akbari and prompted her to trade at least some of her time in the painting studio for her own director's chair. In the end, Akbari emerges from her film stronger than before — living proof of the old saw that it's best to make art about what you know.
