Tapes 'n Tapes have pretty a standard story: they started with a stellar Pitchfork review supplemented by the obligatory industry buzz and a slew of high-profile New York and LA shows. And then, nothing. The band never gave naysayers a chance to step in. Instead, they avoided the usual backlash by quietly working on new songs while touring for two years after their initial release. Don't call it a comeback, though: a lesser band wouldn't be able to plumb the new sonic depth, let alone pull off the strangeness of the "they shouldn't work but they do" indie-rock hooks of new album Walk It Off.
