A fave of ubiquitous Morning Becomes Eclectic host Nic Harcourt (not to mention viewers of a certain prime-time ABC show), LA folkie Meiko toes the line between Swedish twee-poppers, Feist, Tegan & Sara, and old-school Lisa Loeb. Sure, it's a precarious balancing act, but when she hits it, her poppy folk ditties land with cool reserve and carefully corked emotion, betraying hints of a rushing wellspring below. Tunes like "How Lucky We Are," meanwhile, betray a wry, self-effacing wit. Tonight, Meiko plays the Hotel Café for the first of three Thursday performances in a row.
