REDCAT says…

George Orwell wrote 1984 in the bloody wake of WWII, when anti-totalitarian screeds and fear of Communism were at a fever pitch. His own frazzled nerves expected the worst. The bleak tale foresees a world under mind-numbing state control, in which every detail, from doublespeak to authorized sexual expression, is micromanaged by government agencies, and the constant threat of war is an invaluable political device. As one might expect from director Tim Robins' brilliant theatrical mind and overtly liberal politics, he seizes upon every opportunity in this wry, prescient production to find resonance with the current US administration. The show arrives in LA at the tail end of a triumphant global tour.
