More Flavor: Discussion Gay LA vs. Gay San Francisco

The rainbow-flagged enclaves of San Francisco's Castro and West Hollywood's "Boystown" provide California's two largest cities with vibrant, thriving gay neighborhoods. Yet, anyone who has spent time in either area knows that, just because both have gay-pride parades, that doesn't mean they are necessarily one-and-the-same. To explore the similarities and differences between them, the Zócalo lecture series and the Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West present "Gay LA vs. Gay San Francisco." Moderator and Rector of All Saints Church J. Edwin Bacon, Jr. discusses the history of gay culture in the two metropolises with historians and demographers. Other topics include the boundary-breaking events of recent years, such as the recent approval of gay marriage in the state.
