Artist Matt Dangler is a wee young thing to be garnering such art-world acclaim. The 24-year-old's spooky and fantastical paintings are filled with bizarre animals, gnarly tree roots and curious moods, reminiscent of Spanish filmmaker Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth. Dangler's work is selling like hotcakes, just in time for his first solo show at Gallery 1988, titled Treehouse. More than 20 paintings feature the artist's trademark oddball creatures, and are priced on a relatively wide scale, so that, ideally, anyone could go home with one of his peculiar, delightfully outlandish artworks.
