Music: Folk/Country Hayden w/ Haley Bonar

For over a decade now, Hayden has carved out a nice little following, having begun his career with lo-fi, limited-edition releases with hand-drawn liner notes. But despite eventually landing a tour with Guided By Voices and some MTV airplay, Hayden struggles with writer's block that keeps him hovering barely below the radar. His sound alternates between quiet, introspective alt-country, and laid-back, summer-road-trip rock, best sampled on his near-perfect "Dynamite Walls," which begins slow and easy, with a clean guitar and a voice that's right across the couch, and rises to a shimmering, cymbal-heavy crescendo. Shorter songs are endearing snapshots of his many heartbreaks. Catch Hayden on tour in support of his latest, In Field & Town, released on his own Hardwood Records.
