One of Dublin, Ireland's most popular and prolific painters, John Moore makes richly hued portraits and abstractions that use the seemingly ubiquitous premise of the "inner landscape" as their starting point. But there is nothing commonplace about Moore's nimble, almost musical brushwork, sensual palette, and facility for addressing the metaphysical, metaphorical, and literal dimensions of the mind/body/earth continuum. His mottled surfaces seem weathered and organic, obliquely referencing geology and topography, but Moore also depicts figures with his abstract elements. In both cases, his heavily worked canvases plumb the depths of psychological experience.
